Italy Refugees Response
Welcome to another journey Exploring Sustainable Worlds!
When I was in Italy, in May of this year, was recommended to speak to the Mayor of Santorso, because this Village is a good example of receiving immigrants and integrate them. And also Jessica, a Brazilian girl who is working in a refugees center in south of Italy.
Thankfully we've met them, and they gave us a deep overview of this subject.
Italy has been receiving a lot of refugees for some years, already saved a lot of people on the sea, but has no system to integrate them after that...
Numbers are growing every year, we can not stop it, so we need an Europe model to respond to this.
Italy could host a lot more new people, if every single town host. And if more countries adopt this system, we could manage this flow of immigrants and the emergency could become an opportunity. If it's only some towns of a few countries doing this job, the emergency situations are all the time coming and the system will collapse for everyone...
Seems seeing diversity as a problem and the afraid of loosing the richness are the biggest barriers that we need to overtake for a more fair and shared world...

Transitioning Abroad: Storytellers Project
We are very happy to say that we've been awarded a position in the Transition Network Storytellers Calling!!!
Storytellers Project Introduction
So, we embraced this storytellers project from July to December, interviewing different kind of people and movements.
This will help us to better understand the migration phenomenon around the world, the impacts on the local communities and on the expats lives. We hope to find and share communities with good practices of integration, to promote network between expats and the local communities, and hopefully to inspire other projects around the world.

Santorso in Transizione
We met Giulio in Italy, on the International Transition Network HubsGathering, and asked him how transition movement started in Santorso.
Giulio is one of the founders of the Santorso Transition Initiative and he will share his journey with us, how this initiative started and how it took the first steps.
He talks about the importance of connecting to our needs, the cultural density in our neighborhood and the activities the initiative has. The challenges with the municipalities and public institutions.
He says we need a cultural transformation before solar panels, local economy, or food.

EcoVillages and Migration
In this storytellers episode we will know Robert Hall's perspective about the different types of migration and how EcoVillage movement can work with different kind of migrants, challenges and opportunities, and how transition movement can cooperate into their integration.
Was really nice meeting Robert in a conference in our city, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal and it's amazing how can we help each other and integrate through different movements!

Creativity, Art and Migration
In this storytellers episode, Lynn from Netherlands will share with us how creativity, art and theater improvisation can integrate people in a multicultural environment.
Also, how Portugal is a choice for dutch expats for a more sustainable lifestyle, closer to the nature and to themselves.
Really seems that a culture shift is the only way for the society to evolve and build a sustainable world for everyone.

Migration in Latin America
In this Storytellers episode we will listen about Migration in Latin America, Mexico and Brasil realities, from Anhai and Isabela perspectives.
So, they will tell us the different types of immigrants, social support they have on their countries for this phenomenon, and creative solutions for the problems caused by migration.
For me, there are two important ideas that I keep from this video, about this type of migration: Assistentialism is not a response for this phenomenon! And if people are able to find creative solutions on their country, they are not forced to leave. So, maybe the social projects can also focus more on this subject.

Migration in Luxembourg and Romania
In this Storytellers episode we will talk about two countries with a strong connection with Portugal.
Katy, from Luxembourg, will share with us some projects that try to create bridges between communities and different people.
Adina, from Romania, belongs to a country where people are leaving in search for a better life. She is starting a project with some colleagues, with a different approach to this phenomenon: more deeper and holistic.
Migration brings different religious, classes, languages, and the parallel worlds need to connect. And it's really important of being aware of the fact that we are all connected.
So, I repeat Adina question: "How are we approaching the other?"

About us
We are a couple, Daniel and Raquel, and after a decade of enterprise work, we are redesigning our life project for a simpler and healthier lifestyle, more close to the nature and ourselves. So, we are a couple in transition :)
We now work remotely for an online advertising portal specialized in lands that cry for regeneration.
Being involved with the Portuguese Transition movement, and being facilitators for foreigners who want to start living a sustainable life on the land in Portugal, we help them to connect and integrate with Portuguese sustainable initiatives. This way, dynamising the Transition vitality between local-national-international, and among movements in Portugal.

Encontro dos Hubs em Itália: Portugal PRESENTE!
Movimento Transição
A Transição Portugal faz-se representar por duas abelhas, Raquel Ribeiro (Porto) e Sara Serrão (São Luís). Encontramos aqui pessoas vindas de vários países europeus – Espanha, França, Inglaterra e Escócia, Itália, Bélgica, Holanda, Luxemburgo, Alemanha, Áustria, Eslovénia, Croácia, Roménia, Dinamarca, Suécia – e de bem mais longe, como o Japão, Brasil, Chile, México, Argentina e Uruguai. Além destes, encontramos ainda representantes da Transition Network, a estrutura que tem sempre apoiado o movimento internacional, desde a sua criação.
Acolhimento
Somos acolhidas por uma família local de Santorso e reunimo-nos na Villa Rossi, lindíssima, com um grande parque em estilo romântico.
Atividades
Os nossos dias têm começado sempre com um círculo e um pequeno check-in com um grupo que nos acompanha desde o primeiro dia.
Conexão e reconhecimento
Os primeiros dias foram de conexão e reconhecimento, olharmos-nos uns aos outros, conhecermos as motivações mais profundas, paixões, sentimentos e desafios.
Liderança
Explorámos a liderança através de várias dinâmicas. E pudémos ver líderes a emergirem, a passarem o legado, líderes que resistem a essa passagem e querem manter-se no poder por mais algum tempo…
Processo de decisão: governância
Atravessámos o processo de exploração e decisão sobre modelos de governância: estrutura e processos de decisão.
Grupos de trabalho
Vários grupos de trabalho emergiram para tratar de alguns temas. nomeadamente:
1) Transição Interior
2) Municipalities in Transition
3) Coaching para a próxima geração
4) Desenvolvimentos / progressos têm vindo a ser feitos desde o último encontro em cada um dos países presentes que sejam relevantes para o movimento global da transição. Oportunidades e desafios.
Histórias de Transição noutras paragens
Como pode a Transição apoiar as comunidades em caso de desastres naturais? Como se ligam as nossas metodologias com conhecimentos ancestrais locais? Enfim, qual a cara da Transição noutras paragens?
Ouvimos histórias do Japão, Itália e América Latina, colhidas no último dia da nossa estadia colectiva em Santorso, Itália. Tanto no Japão como em Itália, o movimento de Transição tem apoiado comunidades vítimas de terramotos.
Na América Latina as prioridades da Transição parecem convergir na interligação com os movimentos indígenas locais.
Lançamos ao vento a pergunta: de que forma mais profunda poderemos incluir a tradição portuguesa na nossa transição, em Portugal?
Conclusão
É admirável o esforço que é feito no sentido da integração das diferenças e da inclusão de todos os membros!
É um trabalho extremamente intenso e muitas vezes doloroso, que exige de cada um de nós uma grande maturidade e tolerância à frustração.
Uma das frases que mais me emocionou foi alguém que disse, num momento complicado de decisão, que independentemente de muitas vezes os movimentos terem os seus melhores e piores momentos, a verdade é que nós decidimos estar aqui e fazer este trabalho difícil. Mesmo tendo a oportunidade e sendo suficientemente bons para trabalhar no mundo corporativo, esta é a nossa escolha por aquilo em que acreditamos!
Cada um de nós leva agora para o seu Hub os próximos passos que deverá concluir para atingir os objetivos visualizados, algo que tenha aprendido durante estes dias do encontro, e deixámos cá algo que já não precisemos mais que nos acompanhe durante a nossa jornada...

O Fojo Permaculture - Integral Education Center
This video was made in "O Fojo", a permaculture project with about 5,000m2 of land.
It is a project focused on education, where one can experience permaculture in its various dimensions. They are now receiving people to join the community, expanding into neighboring lands and grow as an integral center of education.
Fojo does consulting and design work, whether to grow edible forests, projects, communities or on private land.

Linda-a-Velha in Transition
In this video we share the experience of the Transition initiative of Linda-a-Velha, by the voice of Fernando Oliveira, a member since the early days.
Fernando talks a little about how this initiative started and how it took the first steps. He says the support community and neighbourhood ties are what the initiative is all about. What keeps people together and resilient is the vision that brought them together since the very start.
He speaks about the projects that are currently in course, those that are germinating. Also does not hide the challenges that have arisen and how the project is at this moment, as a transition initiative.
"That this land is... not self-sufficient, that's not what it's about, but it has a community base that is also important.
Let people talk to each other, give themselves to another, and work together for what they think is a benefit to the community.
And then we're here to change... slowly. "

Neste vídeo assistimos à experiência da iniciativa de Transição de Linda-a-Velha, pela voz do Fernando Oliveira, membro dos seus primeiros tempos.
O Fernando fala um pouco sobre como esta iniciativa surgiu e deu os seus primeiros passos. Comenta que a comunidade de suporte e os laços de vizinhança são o que a iniciativa tem de melhor, e o que faz as pessoas manterem-se unidas e resilientes é mesmo a visão que as fez juntar desde o início.
Fala dos projetos que estão a operar neste momento, os que estão a germinar e não esconde os desafios que têm surgido e como se encontra o projeto, neste momento, enquanto iniciativa de transição.
"Que esta terra seja... não auto-suficiente, não passa por aí, mas que pelo menos tenha uma base de comunidade que também é importante.
Que as pessoas falem umas com as outras, que se dêem, e que trabalhem em conjunto por aquilo o que acham que é um benefício para a comunidade.
E pronto, cá ficamos para mudar... devagarinho."

Repair Cafe
Já há algum tempo que ando a ouvir falar no termo REPAIR CAFE e nos espaços que vão abrindo em Portugal.
Basicamente é um espaço onde, de forma gratuita, cada pessoa aprende a reparar/reciclar os seus objetos avariados ou estragados, como telemóveis, eletrodomésticos, televisões, bicicletas, vestuário, mobiliário, etc.
O objetivo é reduzir o uso de novos materiais, mas também ter cidadãos mais autónomos, conscientes e responsáveis pelo impacto que têm no Planeta :)

Transition Network Portugal - Colmeia Ligar
This video came out at the end of the first 3 work meetings of the "Colmeia Ligar" - a work group that emerges from the international connection - so that we can present ourselves to the Transition Network, present our purpose and what dimensions we intend to work on.
We like the image of blood conduction and copper wire. We want to optimize the liaison work, spreading the international information to the movement in Portugal and taking the experiences of Portugal outside the borders. We also feel it is important to promote such exchanges between national projects, in a link to an intranational level.
We had little funding through the Transition Network, which made it possible for us to get together in various initiatives. This has allowed us to be aware of what happens in the initiatives, as well as the initiatives have an idea of what happens in the Transition at national and international level.
This is a new path that we intend to follow in a work under construction, so it is extremely important at this stage to realize with the Transition Portugal, the Beehives and the Transition Initiatives, how we can serve our purpose and contribute to the Transition Portugal movement .

"Colmeia Ligar" - Transition Network Portugal

Este vídeo surgiu no final dos primeiros 3 encontros de trabalho da Colmeia Ligar - um grupo de trabalho que surge da ligação internacional - por forma a apresentarmo-nos à Rede de Transição, apresentarmos qual o nosso propósito e que dimensões pretendemos trabalhar.
Gostamos da imagem da condução sanguínea e do fio de cobre. Queremos otimizar o trabalho de ligação, espalhando a informação internacional para o movimento em Portugal e levando as experiências de Portugal para fora das fronteiras. Sentimos importante também promover essas trocas entre os projetos nacionais, numa ligação a um nível intranacional.
Tivemos um pequeno financiamento através da Transition Network, que fez com que nos conseguíssemos reunir em várias iniciativas. Isto permitiu-nos estar a par do que acontece nas iniciativas, bem como as iniciativas ficarem com uma ideia do que acontece na Transição a nível nacional e internacional.
Este é um caminho novo que pretendemos trilhar, num trabalho em construção, pelo que é extremamente importante nesta fase percebermos junto da Transição Portugal, das Colmeias e das Iniciativas de Transição, de que forma podemos servir o nosso propósito e contribuir para o movimento Transição Portugal.
